Summary: After her mother leaves home suddenly, 13-year-old Sal and her Grandparents take a road trip retracing her mother’s route. Along the way, Sal tells her Grandparents a story about her friend Phoebe. Sal and Pheobe are more alike than they both know. Sal does not share anything about her mother with Pheobe. On the other hand Pheobe are shares everything about her family with Sal. Phoebe’s mother has also left home. So Sal is trying to help Pheobe along the way and ends up helping herself too.
Use in Classroom: This book could be used in a middle school or a high school classroom for literature circles and book talks. This is a great book for students who are struggling with the lose of a parent. It can help them over some of the same struggles as Sal and Pheobe.
